Love Like Christ

“So, this is love… this is what makes life divine”. In the season of love, we briefly let ourselves be distracted by that feeling that sets our hearts a patter. Relationships, though, are never perfect because people aren’t perfect. We attempt to create the perfect relationship built on trust and friendship, a relationship where we love like Christ, yet we often feel disappointed or fall short of ourselves. The good news is that we have one relationship that will never fail us.

There is nothing that we can do to lose our Father’s love. My love shall never fall away from you nor my covenant of peace be shaken, says the Lord, who has mercy on you. — Isaiah 54:10. Not even sin could stop the Father from making a way for His people to be with Him. The question is, can we love as God loves us?

We only love like Christ when we have experienced His love. If we look at 1 Cor 13, we are given a guide to what God’s perfect love looks like. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

4 Ways that we can love like Christ

Love Bears All Things

We can lean on Jesus with our burdens, His yoke is easy and His burden is light. To love like Jesus we should walk with others and bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. Gal 6:2. Do not live with a selfish ideology but bear together with our loved ones and share their cares.

Love Believes All Things

Jesus loves all people for who they are. He believed in them and their potential. To love like Jesus we need to believe in people and above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8

Love Hopes All Things

In love, we must hope. Hope for the good times, hope for the best and never consider each other to be a lost cause. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up Gal 6:9

Love Endures All Things

Perseverance in your relationships means not giving up on the ones you love. When transgressions happen, it can feel like the end or a betrayal. However, when we forgive and work through the issues in our relationships we can stand stronger and love the way God loves. Neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor future things, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. — Romans 8:31-32, 35, 37-39

Love, like most things, is a choice. We have to choose to walk in it. Just like God’s love, we must love unconditionally and see what God sees in His people. We can’t be perfect, but if we give ourselves and others grace in love we can be one step closer. Let’s learn to love ourselves and others as God loves us.  Let’s encourage people as we love them. Hebrews 10:24 says, “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,” And most importantly, let's grow in our love and relationship with God, it will make it much easier to walk in love.
