Let your roots grow down into Him, and let your lives be built on Him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. Colossians 2:7 NLT
If we are to experience healing, restoration and breakthrough in our lives, it is critical that we become vessels from which thankfulness overflows. But in this season of transition and battles raging on the frontlines in the world and in our lives, it is not always easy or even seen faintly plausible to think that our lives are meant to overflow with thankfulness. During those moments it seems like our default response is to engage in a mental exercise of calling to remembrance all of the good things that God has done in us and for us. If you are like me, this will move me into a place where genuine praise and thanksgiving arise in my heart but in truth, it rarely seems to bring forth an overflow of thankfulness. And in those moments, it is far too easy to fall back into a posture where the focus is on the wind and the storm.
Interestingly for me lately, I have had the Holy Spirt ask me twice, 'How long will you resist Me and what I am doing in your life?' It was a startling question yet caused me to consider what was the point of my focus and was I allowing my life to be built on Him. Had I lost the desire to let my roots grow down deep into Him and knowing that He has called all of us to a place of change and transition so that we can learn more about who He is.
Do not be so focused on the storm or the effects of the wind that we miss seeing what He is doing. For when He shows up it will not be as you expect but will be in ways that will surprise, challenge and amaze you; in ways that will reveal the mysteries and the wonder of who He really is. And in those moments our faith will grow strong in the truth and we will overflow with thankfulness.
Father, I praise You and thank You for all You have done in my life. I thank You for the Cross and all the blessings You have poured into my life. Today I come into Your Presence with thanksgiving declaring that You are good. I pray that my faith will grow strong and that my heart would overflow with thankfulness. Because of Your great love towards me, I will sing of Your mercies forever and will declare Your faithfulness all the days of my life. Amen
Happy Thanksgiving
